It is the mission of the Walworth Parks and Recreation Department to provide diverse year-round leisure activities and facilities to our community that promote citizen involvement and a strong sense of community while striving to increase the social, cultural, and physical well-being of our residents. It’s hard to believe the summer has come and gone! Before we get to thinking about all the fabulous Fall excitement we have planned for the coming season we’d be remiss to not send a gigantic thank you to all of our volunteers who sacrificed their time this summer to coach, assistant coach, or lend a hand when we needed one for our Summer Soccer Programs. Many of our programs, and especially our “major” sports programs, rely on dedicated volunteers to make them work. We had a fantastic Summer Soccer Program this summer thanks to all our volunteers hard work and we can’t thank you all enough!
Looking ahead the Fall offers a bounty of wonderful programs, events, and opportunities for the community to get out, be active, and enjoy time with one another. Be sure to mark your calendar’s for the weekend of October 18th & 19th as we celebrate our 4th Annual Halloween Party in the Park & Pumpkin Walk and Harvest Moon Festival. The way the community has endeared itself to this event has been nothing short of remarkable and we are excited to bring some great additions (a carousel, inflatable obstacle course, and representatives from the Rochester Lancers) to the event as well as all the rest of our traditional fun!
This Fall the department has collaborated with Village Fitness to encourage the community to get out and be active through our “Walk To Be Fit” initiative and our “Get Caught Being Active” program. The Autumn is a perfect time to embrace the season with the whole family and get out and be active. Be sure to read up on the details of these new programs on pages 21 and 30 of the Town Topics.
The Ginegaw Park Farmers’ Market continues through the middle of October (our last Tuesday is October 15th). Please come out and support our local farmers and vendors! You won’t find better or fresher produce around—and just right down the road at that!
Registration for the Fall marks our second registration period with our new online registration software—Rec1. By all accounts our first registration season using the new software went swimmingly. Both we (as a department) and the program’s developers are continuing to learn and evolve to create a registration experience that is organized, efficient, and most cost effective to you the consumer. If at any point you experience difficulty with registration please give us a call (and on a related note just another reminder to be sure your browser is set to www.townofwalworthny.gov when looking to reach the town website for any purposes).“Fall” Into Fun This Autumn!
