It is the mission of the Walworth Parks and Recreation Department to provide diverse year-round leisure activities and facilities to our community that promote citizen involvement and a strong sense of community while striving to increase the social, cultural, and physical well-being of our residents. It is our goal to constantly improve our existing programs and parks for the enjoyment of our citizens.
Please be aware that due to repeated acts of vandalism the gates at Sherburne Road Town Park will now be locked at dusk and opened when park staff begins work in the morning. The trails open at dawn even if the gates are still locked – you may park along Lorraine Drive to access them. We apologize for any inconvenience.

What’s New?

Fall seems to be creeping up on us early this year. With all the excitement the season brings we’d first like to take the time to sincerely thank all of our volunteer coaches, assistant coaches, and parent helpers from this past soccer season.  Our programs don’t exist without you. We thank you for all your time and dedication to the program.  We’d also like to acknowledge the time and effort both Jerry White and Todd Forshay gave to our program and coaches this past season.  They both were an incredible asset to our coaches and players throughout the year.

Fall 2014 Town Topics

The Ginegaw Farmers’ Market continues to go strong and will continue on Tuesdays from 3pm until 6pm through October 14th. We have a number of special events and vendors through the remainder of the season – including our own version of the ALS Challenge on Tuesday, September 2nd where you can come out and douse Coach Kevin.  Our market calendar on the town website is the best place to keep up with the latest market news and events.

Mark your own calendars for the weekend of October 17th & 18th as the Halloween Party in the Park and Harvest Moon Festival celebrate their five year anniversary.  This year we’ve added an additional carnival ride and some more surprises yet to be unveiled.  As always the events of the weekend are free of charge thanks to the generosity of our festival sponsors.

As the season’s turn we’re excited to announce we’re bringing ice skating back to Walworth. A seasonal rink will be established in the front of Ginegaw Park (where the Farmers’ Market currently is held).  Ice time will be available for both the general public (open skates) and individual groups (parties or team practices).  We will officially cut the ribbon on the rink at our Light The Night tree decorating contest (see the back of the Town Topics) on Saturday, December 6th at 5:30pm.  For more information about the skating rink please contact the Recreation Department.

Thank you for all your continued support – see you this Fall!
